Why Port City Painting Exists
Port City Painting started in 2025, but Veronika's journey in the painting industry began in 2018. After years of painting hands-on, she moved into the operational and client side of an established Ottawa painting company, an experience that shaped her belief that great painting is about more than the final coat. It's about doing the work properly, communicating clearly, and genuinely caring for the people and homes you work with.
When Veronika moved to Saint John, she fell in love with the city's historic architecture, colourful neighbourhoods, and beautiful old homes. She saw an opportunity to build a painting company that combined quality craftsmanship with an exceptional client experience, and to play a small part in caring for the homes and buildings that give Saint John its character.
As a woman who has experienced the challenges of working in a traditionally male-dominated trade, Veronika also wanted to create the kind of workplace she wished more woman had access to: supportive, empowering, and full of opportunities to learn. Today, Port City Painting is building a team of kind, hardworking people, with a commitment to livable wages, developing real skills, and creating work everyone can be proud of.
Our goal is simple: take care of our people, take care of our clients, and leave every home more beautiful than we found it.
The People Who'll Be in Your Home
We're a small crew on purpose, so it's worth knowing who actually shows up.
Veronika Latrille
Veronika is the founder of Port City Painting and remains hands-on with every estimate and colour consultation. With a strong eye for detail, she believes beautiful, lasting results start with proper preparation and genuine care for the work. She’s always looking for better, more efficient ways to serve clients while continuing to grow as a leader and build a company that creates meaningful opportunities for hardworking, honest people. Outside of work, Veronika finds balance through yoga and time in nature.
Madelina Latrille
With six years of painting experience, Madelina can cut a straight line like no other. She brings a bubbly, positive energy to every job — and clients are quick to notice the smile she brings along with her. She works with Port City Painting part-time, using the skills she’s built over the years to support her next chapter: learning the dog care industry with the goal of one day building a business of her own.
AP
AP is our apprentice painter, bringing plenty of curiosity and a genuine eagerness to learn to the crew. From pressure washers to painting equipment and new techniques, he loves learning how things work and building his skills hands-on. His curiosity and willingness to learn show up every day, and we’re excited to watch him continue to grow in the trade.
Zach
With a few years of painting experience under his belt, Zach continues to sharpen his skills and grow in the trade. A dedicated dad, it’s clear that his children are at the heart of everything he does, and he takes pride in being a present and attentive father. Outside of work, you’ll most likely find him outdoors, spending time with his family, fishing, or camping.

-
Woman-owned and owner-operated
Having people in your home for days can be an imposition. We work to make it the opposite: tidy, considerate, and easy to have around, whether you're working from home, wrangling kids, or stepping over the dog.
-
The owner is on your job
Veronika runs the estimates and the consults herself, and she's on the tools too. You're dealing with the person whose name is on the company, not a rotating cast of reps.
-
Colour help built into the estimate
Most painters hand you a fan deck and wish you luck. We sit down with you, show mockups of your actual space, and leave samples behind. It's the kind of thing people usually pay a designer for.
-
Insured and backed by a guarantee
We carry $2M in liability coverage, and we don't count a job finished until you've walked it and signed off. If something isn't right, we handle it.
How We Approach Every Job
A paint job is easy to promise and harder to do properly. These are the things we hold to, whatever the project.
Prep is the job, not the warm-up
Most paint failures trace back to what happened, or didn't, before the first coat. We treat surface prep as the real work, because it's what decides whether the finish still looks right years down the line.
A crew you forget is there
Having people in your home for days can be an imposition. We work to make it the opposite: tidy, considerate, and easy to have around, whether you're working from home, wrangling kids, or stepping over the dog.
No surprises, start to finish
You get a written scope, a real start date, and check-ins as the work goes. If something changes, you hear it from us first, not at the end on an invoice.
Colour you'll still love later
Choosing colour is the part most homeowners lose sleep over. The colour consult exists to take that off your plate: mockups of your rooms, samples on your walls, and honest input before anything is final.
Five Services, One Crew
As a full-service painting company in Saint John, Port City handles five residential jobs: interior and exterior painting, cabinet repainting, deck and fence staining, and wallpaper removal and installation. Every one runs through the same crew, with the same prep and the same colour consult. The full detail on each is on the services page.
Interior Painting
The inside of the home, top to bottom: walls and ceilings, trim and doors, accent walls, crown moulding, and the minor drywall repair a repaint usually calls for. A single room or the whole house, the care stays the same and only the scale changes.
Exterior Painting
Siding, doors, windows, and exterior trim, painted with products chosen for the coastal and four-season conditions in this region. We prep the surface so the finish holds, because the wrong product on an unprepared surface fails fast here.
Cabinet Painting
Kitchen cabinets and built-in cabinetry taken from dated or worn to a clean, durable finish. Doors and hardware come off, surfaces are degreased and sanded, and the paint is applied to stand up to daily kitchen use, not just to photos.
Wallpaper Installation & Removal
Stripping dated or damaged wallpaper and getting the wall sound again for paint or fresh paper, or hanging new wallpaper with tight seams and no bubbles. Removal is often the first step before an interior repaint, so we handle the paper, the adhesive residue, and the wall repair that usually comes with it.
Deck & Fence Staining
Cleaning, sanding, and staining decks, fences, and exterior wood so they hold up through another New Brunswick winter. We match the product to the condition of the wood, whether it needs a full strip and re-stain or a lighter maintenance coat.
We Don't Call It Done Until You Do
When we walk the finished work with you, anything that isn't right gets handled before the job is called done. You're the one who decides it's finished, and we don't bill for work that isn't.
